Trimester Chart

Information on your pregnancy by weeks, months and trimesters is really important for the safety of the baby and the mother. Figuring out exactly where you are in your pregnancy helps you maintain a routine in terms of diet and activities. Feel them breathe, feel them sleep and feel their each and every move! They are inside you as a part of yours!

  • 4

You are happy yet nervous! In the first 2-3 weeks, do not start or stop any crucial medications without checking with your doctor. In the 4th week of your pregnancy, you may experience abdominal cramps, mood swings, sore breasts, nausea etc. Invest in an extra support bra, and avoid chemicals and second-hand smoke.

  • 9

The little one’s heart starts pumping blood; most other organs have begun to develop. Your pregnancy hormones increase. If you're nauseated, try eating several small meals throughout the day and avoid strong odour. Weeks 6-9 is the crucial phase when you need to be more careful to avoid miscarriage. Avoid caffeine to stay hydrated.

  • 13

Your inch-long baby is now called a fetus. Your cravings may run from a gamut of food items like cheeseburgers to non-food items like chalk; make an appointment to discuss genetic screening/diagnostic tests or simply discuss about your non-food cravings (pica). After the 13th week of pregnancy, you can start eating for two.

  • 18

As the second trimester starts, you feel rejuvenated with renewed energy. Start prenatal yoga, Pilates or other light exercises. Drink plenty of fluids (not coffee or tea), get enough sleep and follow a healthy diet. Weeks 15-20 of pregnancy is the best time to make an appointment for the multiple marker test or amniocentesis to assure the safety of your baby. Your tiny love is growing inside.

  • 22

Now that you're feeling better, take advantage of your waning baby-free days. Spend some quality time with your partner; see a movie, go to dinner, take walks together. It’s even safe to get intimate with your partner unless you have any complications. In the 22nd week of pregnancy, you may be developing haemorrhoids and constipation. Lucky you! At this point, the fetus weighs almost a pound.

  • 27

You might feel sleepy throughout the day as your baby begins to sleep for longer periods now, often when you do. From here on out, you'll probably be gaining about 1 pound a week. Focus on eating high-fibre foods, including fruits, vegetables and whole grains; they will help you feel full longer. Avoid long-distance travel as you may go into unexpected labour at any point of time from now.

  • 31

In weeks 28-30, you may feel tightening in your abdomen. Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of true labour. Ask your doctor about doing fetal kick counts, which help assess your baby's wellbeing. The baby is increasingly sensitive to light and sound inside. Try to maximize room in your abdomen by standing and sitting as upright as possible. In the 31st week a gradual decrease in the power of your baby's kicks and punches may occur as space in the uterus (utero) becomes tighter.

  • 36

Pregnancy has started to lose some of its glow on your face now. It's fair to go little crazy but plan for it wisely; take a breastfeeding class, decorate the room for your teeny-weeny; anything to welcome your tiny love. Consult with doctor for tests for Group B strep between weeks 35-37. The baby may drop lower into your pelvis in preparation for delivery and you may experience a frequent need to pee. Consider doing perineal massage daily in preparation for labour.

  • 40

Your breasts may be leaking colostrums—your baby's first food. Buy nursing pads and bras, and keep changing bras to avoid breast itching. Towards the end of third trimester, you may feel so huge and uncomfortable that you're tempted to ask your doctor to induce you early. Your pregnancy is considered full-term now and this is the time to rush to the hospital anytime soon. If you haven't delivered yet, consult with your doctor immediately.
